TVET Girl campaign, which was officially launched on November 28 today, has reached Huye district in the Southern province. This is after making road trips in the districts of Ngoma, Nyagatare, Gicumbi, Muhanga and Rubavu districts.
Local district leaders, artists, female role models in TVET, girls currently enrolled in TVET, gender focal points associated with IPRCs and WDA team are constantly passing on messages to attract more girls into TVET.
Changing the mindset of young girls towards TVET requires efforts from different stakeholders. The Vice Mayor of Rubavu district in charge of Social affairs Marie Grace Uwampayizina called on grass root leaders to own this initiative as the Rwanda strives to become a middle income state.
One of the role models Devota kubwimana is a student in Construction at IPRC South. She is optimistic that such a campaign gives courage to fellow girls. “ Some of us faced challenges when choosing this career, but now that the Government and development partners approach local people, it makes a big difference. Many youth will begin making right choices in TVET.
Clarisse Nyirasikubwabo 16, a student in Huye district who attended the TVET Girl campaign said that messages inspired her to take up courses that enable chances of job creation. She however calls on those implementing TVET to go further deep in villages where the message has not yet penetrated.
