According to Ngendabanga, after weighing on how costly, time consuming and sometimes ineffective use of unfashionable irrigation system of splashing water into the farms, he decided to find a solution and come up with an automatic system solving the issue.
“I have developed the technology to help farmers to cut down the cost of maintaining their crops in farmers watered with no time wasted, and resources cut back,” said Ngendabanga.
A small irrigation system like this can operating on one hectare
As well as other IPRCs, the ten years old IPRC Tumba has three key focus areas are equipping students with hands-on skills, doing community outreaches, and career supports and idea development.
“Apart from compulsions of training our students with hands on skills, we are commended to come up with technological solutions tour society,” he added.
IPRCs are ment to producing highly qualified technical human resources with requisite hands-on skills, and entrepreneurship mindset.

The developed automatic irrigation system is slight energy consuming, environment friendly and cheap at the level saving more than two third of resources spent on using other watering/ irrigation systems at low cost.

Variable with the size of the land, the smallest system that can operating at one-hectare farm could cost a farmer Rwf35, 000.

“It can be acquired with the farmers in far- flung areas as it can run on the solar energy source,” he added.

Key focuses of the Rwanda’s IPRCs have been the primary tools for making the institution a center of excellence in Technical Vocational Education and Regional wise.

With the mission of producing highly qualified technical human resources with requisite hands-on skills, and entrepreneurship mindset to lead meaningful changes as enshrined into the government of Rwanda’s vision.
