Papias Musafiri Hands Over Education Ministry to Dr Eugene Mutimura

Outgoing Education Minister Dr. Papias Musafiri and incoming Minister Dr Eugene Mutimura participated in a formal exchange ceremony held at the Ministry of Education in Kacyiru on Thursday evening.

Dr. Papias Musafiri handed over the office to the new minister, and promised to support him at any moment that he needs his help.

He thanked the president for giving him the opportunity to serve for years at the helm of the education ministry.

“I want to believe that I did my best. I know what I have left behind will only be built on,” Dr.Musafiri said, before telling the incoming minister: “I want to wish you good luck in this ministry and I am just a call away in case you need some clarifications.”

During the same event, Dr.Mutimura was also briefed on the ongoing programs at the ministry and the challenges it still faces.

The handover event was graced by almost all state minister in charge of primary and secondary education, Dr Isaac Munyakazi, Olivier Rwamukwaya, state minister in charge of technical and vocational education and training and Mulindwa Sam and directors of the semi-autonomous units of the ministry.

Meanwhile, Dr Eugene Mutimura promised to work together with all the staff of the ministry, to revamp the country’s education.

Mutimura told the education ministry staff that he looks forward to improve the country’s quality of education.

 “I will start by looking into the prevailing challenges together with you and other stakeholders before we can lay strategies to improve the education system. The overall objective is to build on the existing pillars to improve the quality of our education that would set new momentum of our development agenda of making Rwanda a knowledge-based economy,” Dr Mutimura said.

He also thanked Dr Musafiri and all the education ministry staff for the, “great work they have been doing at the education ministry.”
